Reduce costs in e-commerce with lean commerce

Reduce costs in e-commerce – that’s in the interests of every company, especially in difficult economic times. To actively pursue this goal, we have developed the Lean Commerce approach, which allows you to start where your focus lies. Whether core technologies, performance, PIM or search – we support you in the implementation.

The lean commerce approach is based on the principles of lean management, which primarily strives for a lean value chain. Applied to e-commerce, this means that all steps along the e-commerce process chain are analyzed and then optimized. A composable architecture is ideal for working in as focused a manner as possible. This allows individual components to be exchanged or optimized without having to worry about the impact on the remaining technologies.

If not now, then when?

The economic situation is forcing many companies to reduce costs in e-commerce. At the same time, the decoupling of the front end from the back end (headless technology) brings with it many new opportunities for optimizing and orchestrating processes. In this context, lean commerce represents a long-term strategy for your e-commerce system.

Getting started is not only possible by replatforming, but also with smaller improvements that are nevertheless very efficient. One example here is search optimization – relatively simple with a high impact on sales.

Gradually, the various building blocks can be adapted until perhaps replatforming is achieved at the end. Along the way, small cogwheels can be the starting point for optimized e-commerce.

The long-term effects will then become apparent in 2 to 3 years:
Cost savings and increased efficiency.

Lean commerce – many paths lead to the goal

Existing components and services are analyzed to provide a basis for decision-making. Our experts then make recommendations for high-performance tools that meet your requirements in terms of application options and budget.

The goal: Individually selected tools for the customized commerce platform

In a composable architecture with various services, the optimal orchestration of these different instruments is crucial. The main focus here is on the independence of the individual components within the e-commerce landscape. To achieve this, we take care of implementation, documentation and monitoring.

The goal: perfect interaction between the various processes

Optional tools: Emporix Orchestration Engine

The synergy of search and merchandising in e-commerce is ensured with advanced search technologies. Using a lean commerce approach, we select the search tool that best meets your performance and budget requirements.

The goal: Better product findability and increased conversion rates.

Optional tools: Fact-Finder, Algolia, Bloomreach, SearchHub

The performance of a web application is a decisive factor for a satisfactory user experience. It can also be used to boost the ranking, as performance is also evaluated by search engines. To achieve this, media content must be optimized, a responsive design implemented and server response times improved.

The goal: Reduced loading times and optimized codes

Optional tools: Google Lighthouse, Dynatrace

As part of our change management approach, we place a particular focus on cost-efficient development processes – right from the start. We eliminate the superfluous and streamline processes in order to be able to react more quickly to market changes and shorten development times.

The goal: Higher customer satisfaction and better market adaptation

As part of the FIS Group, we have comprehensive expertise in the integration of e-commerce systems with SAP merchandise management systems, particularly in the B2B sector. As part of the lean commerce approach, we optimize SAP integration based on your requirements.

The goal: efficient, customized and high-performance integration

Headless or decoupled storefronts are an important basis of the lean commerce approach. They separate the front-end display (storefront) from the back-end system to enable greater flexibility and reusability of the user interface.

The goal: more flexibility, greater scalability

Master data is a significant component of every e-commerce system. To create, maintain and manage it efficiently in the SAP environment, Lean Commerce offers a suitable solution: FIS/mpm is the SAP optimization for efficient master data management.

The goal: master data that can be used efficiently by all departments

An improved user experience ensures satisfied customers and increases the conversion rate. In lean commerce, we develop tailored optimization strategies from a UX/UI perspective, always keeping the user in mind.

The goal: efficient, customer-centric solutions and improved conversion

Optimize advertising spend and increase efficiency with data-driven strategies. Here, the lean commerce approach focuses primarily on lean marketing techniques to minimize costs while maximizing the reach and impact of campaigns.

The goal: A higher ROI and improved customer loyalty

SAP on-premise: in the cloud by 2027?

When an online store is migrated to a new environment such as the cloud, this primarily has an impact on the technologies in the background. The lean commerce approach offers a secure option for maintaining or optimizing the most important functionalities and technologies accordingly.
Are you still using SAP on-premise solutions? Then it’s time to switch to the cloud – support and development will end in 2026 (End of Mainstream Maintenance).
