A challenge for industry and production

and how to tackle them

The digitalization of B2B sales has long been reality for industrial and production companies: buyers are increasingly researching, configuring and ordering digitally – and often make decisions before any personal contact is made. Those who do not offer an efficient platform here are losing customers to competitors or marketplaces – and therefore also data, margins and valuable service contact points.

At the same time, grown ERP structures, individual pricing and contract logics as well as internationally ramified sales and service networks make the transformation more difficult. Data is stored in silos, processes are fragmented and scalability is limited. The key challenge is to connect these structures without replacing them completely. Next-generation platform-based, AI-native architectures create the basis for this: they integrate existing systems and open up new digital business models.

LEVERAGING AFTERSALES POTENTIAL

The aftermarket for industrial products offers margins of 25-45% – smart portals provide the platform for up- and cross-selling.

With our experience from over 500 e-commerce and portal projects, we support industrial and manufacturing companies in strategically developing their digital platforms.

We focus on AI-native B2B portals that connect sales, service and after sales along the entire product life cycle – and integrate them deeply into existing SAP ERP process and system landscapes as part of the FIS Group.

This creates platforms for new digital services, data-based business models and AI solutions that retain customers, open up additional sources of revenue and sustainably strengthen your competitiveness in the international environment.

The market is moving — and it’s moving fast. More and more B2B business is being conducted via digital channels and specialized platforms. For industrial companies, this means that those who do not invest in their own B2B stores and portals are leaving margins, customer data and service contact points to marketplaces or competitors.

While traditional sales channels are stagnating, digital channels are becoming a key driver — especially in the spare parts, service and project business. Successful companies are using integrated platforms to create customer experiences that are hardly economically viable offline.

Many industrial companies are testing AI, but without AI-ready architecture and ERP integration, the benefits remain stuck in pilot phases. This is where the decisive advantage arises: modernize now with commerce platforms that combine data, processes and AI.

Innovative Solutions

for industry & production

FIS/Shopconnector

Connection between the front end and SAP ERP

The FIS/ShopConnector developed by the FIS Group seamlessly connects B2B store and portal systems with SAP. Customer, order and article data are automatically transferred and processed directly in SAP ERP — including customer-specific prices, conditions and stock levels in real time.

The transfer can be controlled completely transparently: orders can be monitored, checked, and, if necessary, processed before they are posted in the SAP system.

30 years of SAP expertise

Gold Partner status in the FIS Group

As part of the FIS Group, we bring a depth of integration that pure digital agencies cannot achieve. Hundreds of completed ERP projects and direct access to SAP architects mean that there is no loss of translation between the commerce vision and SAP reality. What we promise in the portal can also be delivered in the backend.

Frequently asked questions about
Digitalization in industry & production

The question is often not whether a system is available — but whether it really works together. Whether ERP conditions are visible in real time in the portal. Whether service processes are digitally mapped. Whether all external parties — purchasers on the customer side, dealers, service technicians, partners — can see the data points that are relevant to their task. We start with an honest analysis of the current situation before we make a recommendation.

A B2B portal goes far beyond the act of purchasing. It maps roles and rights — for purchasers on the customer side, service technicians, dealers, cooperation partners and suppliers. It integrates service processes, enables self-service for document management, ticketing and spare parts searches, and can integrate third-party systems such as CRM, telematics or training platforms. The store is a central element, but not the only one.

Step by step — without a big bang. Existing systems are retained, new functions are added via standardized interfaces. Maintenance calendars, service tickets or proactive upgrade notifications can be added on a modular basis once the foundation — stable ERP integration and a clean database — is in place. Evolution instead of revolution: the portal grows with the requirements.

Using proven integration architectures with SAP Commerce, SAP Integration Suite or API-based approaches. As part of the FIS Group, we combine commerce expertise with in-depth SAP know-how — pricing logic, inventory data and customer base are taken directly from the ERP, not duplicated.

Composable architectures consist of interchangeable, API-connected building blocks instead of a monolithic system. This enables faster time-to-market, manufacturer-independent flexibility and AI-native expandability — structural requirements that traditional platforms cannot fulfill.

Traditional platforms integrate AI as a function — as a recommendation module here, as a chatbot there. Next generation AI-native commerce based on the ACE principle (Autonomous Commerce Execution, Emporix) goes further: AI is not one function among many, but the operational center that orchestrates commerce processes, makes decisions in real time and adapts continuously — without a programming project, without release cycles.
In concrete terms: order processes are interpreted and executed autonomously. Price rules and workflows can be adapted using no-code. AI agents act along the entire customer journey — from configuration to service ticket. For industrial companies with complex products, international structures and high transaction volumes, this is not a nice-to-have, but a structural competitive advantage.

A central portal with multi-client capability, multilingual content and market-specific price structures makes it possible to address new markets digitally without having to set up a separate infrastructure for each market. Services, training and technical support can be provided digitally — even where traveling is uneconomical or politically difficult. This creates resilience and opens up growth potential that would simply not be economically viable without a digital platform.

From potential analysis, architecture consulting and UX design to ERP integration and ongoing operation — as part of the FIS Group, we support the entire cycle: from SAP ERP and process expertise to digital platforms, customer experience and user experience. In this way, digitalization does not become a project risk, but a measurable competitive advantage.
