Big Bang AI Festival: Visual Search – Product search by image, but make it smart

Visual search in the tile trade: In a keynote speech at the Big Bang AI Festival 2025, André Osyguß, AI Solution Engineer at Medienwerft, together with Simon Heppt, Chief Digital Officer at STARK Germany, showed how customers can find suitable tiles in the STARK range with just a photo, visualize them in their own space using augmented reality, and order them directly online.

The solution is based on a custom-developed embedding model and a vector database that can recognize even the slightest differences between tiles and return matching products in real time. A scalable, SAP-compatible architecture connects the shop, PIM, and microservices so that new product images are automatically incorporated into Visual Search without having to constantly retrain the model. A practical use case that radically simplifies the complex, emotional process of buying tiles – from initial inspiration to the purchase decision.
