Replatforming, Part 2: Medienwerft launches HABA Pro on Emporix as well
We did it again! Together with our client HABA FAMILYGROUP, we implemented the sophisticated replatforming of the B2B store platform HABA Pro, formerly Wehrfritz – a full-service provider of room solutions, furniture and games for childcare facilities. We are continuing our established partnership with the long-running German company. At the beginning of the year, we migrated the B2C store of the HABA consumer brand – haba-play.com – in record time and were able to use the experience gained from the successful replatforming as the basis for the B2B store.
This is how we did it:
The replatforming of “HABA Pro” was more than just a technical migration – it was an agile project in a continuously changing system landscape. Because we had already converted large parts of the monolithic structure of the B2C store “haba-play.com” to a MACH architecture based on the specially developed LCS middleware, we were able to use this as a key resource for the B2B store haba-pro.com: It enabled us to react flexibly to changing requirements and efficiently integrate parallel adaptations in the various distributed systems.
What does MACH mean?
MACH stands for Microservices, API-First, Cloud-Native and Headless. Implemented with Medienwerft LCS middleware, this modern composable commerce architecture guarantees modularity and flexibility. This proved to be a great advantage in practice, as existing modules could be reused.
Many of the microservices that were developed for haba-play.com – such as the content management services, the services for product presentation or the search functions – could also be integrated directly into HABA Pro. This not only reduced the development time, but also ensured a consistent technical standard. At the same time, we added specific microservices for the B2B sector, e.g. for customer-specific pricing logic and a complex document system. Thanks to the API-first strategy, these new services could be seamlessly integrated into the existing landscape without affecting existing systems.
Our experience with the MACH architecture paid off in particular when rapid coordination and iterative adjustments were required. Instead of lengthy conversions, we were able to adapt individual modules in close coordination with the customer and integrate them smoothly into the existing structure.
Once again, the separate development of front-end and back-end with MACH technology proved to offer decisive advantages: It enables independent further development of both areas and thus ensures maximum flexibility.
The result:
HABA Pro was already a lucrative B2B platform, but now it also serves as a prime example of how technological fine-tuning, a well thought-out flexible architecture and partnership-based collaboration can successfully bring a dynamic project to fruition, thereby increasing efficiency and flexibility even further.
Replatforming to Emporix
Case Study: HABA familygroup
The HABA Group develops, produces and sells high-quality products for children in the areas of toys, education, furniture and family life. By replatforming to Emporix, the internationally active family business has not only made its e-commerce solution flexible, fast and scalable – it has also significantly reduced its total cost of ownership. In our case study, you can find out how HABA reduced its TCO by 50% by replatforming to Emporix and how a calculation of the TCO during replatforming can also look for your company.
